Thierry Declerck studied Philosophy at the University of Brussels and Computational Linguistics at the University of Tübingen. He is working at DFKI's Multilinguality and Language Technology (MLT) lab since 1996. He is currently leading the DFKI contribution to the H2020 project "Prêt-à-LLOD" (http://www.pret-a-llod.eu/). And he is the Scientific Communication Manager of the COST Action CA18209 - European network for Web-centred linguistic data science (NexusLinguarum)

As a former member of the Dept. of Computational Linguistics and Phonetics of Saarland University at Saarbrücken, Thierry Declerck was leading the lab's contribution to the FP7 project “Pheme” (see http://www.pheme.eu/) on computing veracity in social media (the project finished in March 2017). At DFKI, Thierry joined the H2020 project “FREME” (see http:www.freme-project.eu/) on Digital Content Enrichment, launched in February 2015.

He was coordinating the FP7 European project TrendMiner until October 2014 (www.trendminer-project.eu), and he was contributing to the DFKI part of the FP7 LIDER project (to finish in October 2015, see Link) and was leading until February 2013 the DFKI contribution to the European Project MONNET (Link). Both projects were dealing with the topics of representing language data in the context of knowledge representation systems. Before this he was in charge of the DFKI contribution to the Integrated Project MUSING (Link) on Business intelligence, which finished in April 2010, and related to MUSING he was involved in the eTen Wins project, dealing with Web-based Intelligence for common-interest fiscal Networked Services. Till March 2009 he was involved as well in the European Network of Excellence "K-Space" (Knowledge Space of semantic inference for automatic annotation and retrieval of multimedia content, see Link). Before K-Space, Thierry Declerck was leading the DFKI contributions to the MUMIS project on the Indexing and Search of Multimedia data.

In the field of standardization of language resources, Thierry Declerck was involved in the eContent "Lirics" (Linguistic Infrastructure for Interoperable Resources and Systems) project (see http://lirics.loria.fr/). Thierry Declerck is also actively involved in ISO TC37/SC4/ (on language resources management). More recently he also joined W3C standardisation work, especially in the Ontology-Lexica Community Group (Ontolex

Thierry Declerck already joined the Computational Linguistic Departement of the University of the Saarland in the time between September 2002 and February 2005 in order to conduct the IST Esperonto project on upgrading normal Web content into Semantic content, and the eContent  INTERA project on an Integrated European language data Repository Area. Thierry Declerck was also representing the University of the Saarland in the European IST Network of Excellence SCHEMA and he was teaching on related topics at ESSLLI 2004, ESSLLI 2005 and ESSLLI 2007 addressig issues of multimedia semantics, in relation with NLP.

During his study of Computational Linguistics he has been working at the Deutsches Institut fuer Fernstudien (DIFF) in Tuebingen, contributing to the development of a tutorial system. He also worked at the Institut fuer Maschinelle Sprachverarbeitung (IMS) in Stuttgart, where he was involved in the EUROTRA accompanying research (within the Lexical Functional Grammar framework. At IMS he joined (1994) the LS-GRAM project, where he worked with the ALEP platform (See Coling 96 paper).

When hejoined the Language Technology LAb of DFKI june 1996, Thierry first worked within the COSMA project, implementing a reusable natural language server developed with a generic interface to application systems, till March 1997, and then in the PARADIME project on a parametrizable information extraction system, which ended in March 2000. He then took the responsibility of the SHOW-SOG project, dealing with the topic of language technology based automatic hyperlinking and organisation of knowledge on the web, a project which was achieved at the end of 2001.
