Conclusion

Summing it up, the FLUIDS project will provide two main results: (1) a software environment for building intelligent interfaces for decision support systems that is charaterized by an open architecture of reusable building blocks that can be adapted to the requirements of different systems and users, as well as (2) a methodology for designing and developing interface models.

FLUIDS offers an innovative architecture and a principled approach for constructing intelligent interfaces for real-time decision support. Its main features are the advanced KSM methodology for knowledge engineering and a sophisticated plan-based approach to multimedia interaction rooted in well-established linguistic theory. The technical realization strategy for the FLUIDS software environment exploits new emerging paradigms in computing to maximize the potential for broad and succesful application. Achievements of the first project phase include an initial version of the FLUIDS software environment and a demonstrator. The next step will focus on validation and refinement of the FLUIDS approach by testing it on two real time traffic management systems currently operating in the cities of Madrid and Turin.
