Conclusion

FLUIDS offers an innovative architecture and a principled approach for constructing intelligent interfaces for real-time decision support. Its main features are the advanced KSM methodology for knowledge engineering and a sophisticated plan-based approach to multimedia interaction. Following this approach, the FLUIDS project will provide two main results:

• a software environment for building intelligent interfaces for decision support systems that is characterized by an open architecture of reusable building blocks that can be adapted to the requirements of different systems and users, as well as
• a methodology for designing and developing interface models.

The FLUIDS approach will be validated and further refined by testing it on three different real time traffic management systems currently operating in the cities of Madrid and Turin. The experience gained so far from building these demonstrators already indicates that it is feasible to design, implement, and operate intelligent user interfaces by applying the FLUIDS framework.
