7 Discussion

The purpose of this paper was to outline a reference model for IMMPSs. The model is meant as a step towards a broader agreement of the scientific and industrial community on the topic. The core of the resulting RM is a generic reference architecture which may be summarized by the equation:

``IMMPS = Layers + Experts''

The design of this architecture reflects both a decomposition of multimedia generation into logically distinct subtasks (represented as Layers) and a separation of these tasks from the knowledge sources (called Experts) which might be exploited to accomplish them.
