The Constraint-Based Layout Framework LayLab and Its Applications. In: I. F. Cruz, J. Marks, K. Wittenburg, eds., Proc. of ACM Workshop on Effective Abstractions in Multimedia: Layout, Presentation, and Interaction, San Francisco, CA, 1995.
Description:
Although multimedia technology is so popular that virtually everyone is
using it in some form, the current systems suffer from fundamental
layout design problems. This document describes work on the
knowledge-based multimedia layout manager LayLab. LayLab
exploits a dedicated constraint engine that supports the incremental
layout and design of interactive and dynamic multimedia displays and
flowcharts as well as the treatment of discrete placement problems in
finite domains. This paper emphasizes the transfer of the theoretical
results into a set of diverse applications.
