Description:

This document presents a first draft of a reference model for intelligent multimedia presentation systems. The model has been developed starting from a definition of presentation systems, and incrementally extended to include the notions of multimedia and intelligence. This helps the reader to understand the underlying concepts, as only one new concept is added at one time. The current version of the model has been tested against two implemented systems (MMI*2 and WIP). Both of them have been described by means of the terminology and the architecture of the model and subsequently compared. The reference architecture for IMP systems is composed of four layers and four expert modules as shown in the following figure. Each layer and expert module is subsequently refined into a specific architecture showing the internal details.
