Research has consistently shown gender inequality in young children’s access to digital technology, and many studies also provide evidence of gender and sexual harassment in classrooms. The gender gap in educational outcomes are increasingly seen has increasingly been seen as a national and international scandal.

In this workshop issues associated with the human rights and dignity of young children will be considered as well as the professional and personal ethics of working with children and their families in this field. A central question to be addressed will be the degree to which projects associated with the i3 net accept the challenge of this aspect of the ‘digital divide’ and can find strategies to address them.

The decision to convene this workshop was motivated in part by the observation that the children's responses to several of the ESE project exhibits at Jonkoping were strongly gendered.
