Hi Vojtech,

from the current API 
(http://mary.dfki.de/javadoc/marytts/htsengine/HTSVocoder.html), you can 
see that the HTSVocoder uses a port of the hts_engine with a 
mixed-excitation extension. You can find papers on that, e.g., Yoshimura 
et al. (2001) [^1].

Having said that, I'm not the expert here -- that would be Marcela.
