Virtual Office Laboratory

The DFKI researches for intelligent assistants supporting knowledge workers in their knowledge-intensive work. Here, a variety of methods, technologies, hard- and software is applied to reach this goal.

In the Living Lab „Virtual Office“ all these concepts are integrated into a future office workplace to show potentials of the research for the demands of knowledge work in modern offices. Here, we can innovative combinations of the current state of the art and provide a platform for further research and test activities. With that the Living Lab is used as a „think-cell“ workplace as well as a windows to the public by demonstrations.

Placed in the newly build DFKI-showroom in Kaiserslautern, the workplace already shows various demos and prototypes of our research and it features

  • Immersive access to complex information spaces by multidimensional and multi-view projection and structure navigation
  • Flexible and adaptive command and interaction interfaces, including speech processing
  • Work behavior observation, including eye tracking, attention identification, work process context detection
  • Pro-active, personalized and adaptive information delivery
  • Integrated communication and information exchange, including video conferencing and sharing facilities
  • Multi media information integration
  • Deep integration of paper and electronic documents
  • Integration of physical and virtual desktop, including remote extensions for group collaboration
  • Embedding ‘normal’ office hardware (e.g., scanner, printer, multifunctional devices) into this environment
