Distributed Organizational Memories
Flexible Organizations need to archive knowledge and expertise in decentralized, distributed company memories
(Organizational Memories). The organizational memory constitutes the heart of every
learning organization. It contains all components, data, information,
occurrences, functions, and concepts, and supplies the IT
basis to systematically recall stored information .
The purpose of actual
research projects on decentralized organizational memories is to develop a flexible framework. Based on an
agent-supported intranet-capable platform a query may be routed
automatically to various and differently structured units of the organizational
memory.
In order to minimize search efforts the organizational memory needs to be integrated in the user's work and be able to supply relevant information automatically. This requires to consider each task's context. Furthermore, the system can supply automized knowledge processing and execute defined tasks autonomously; it can propose suggestions for decision-making or evaluate the user's arbitrations.
