e-Learning
"e-Learning" stands for
eletronically-supported learning using "new media'" technologies.
By using learning software like CD-ROMs and DVDs, e-Learning can
proceed locally on any given computer ("Computer Based Training").
Learning materials can also be stored on a provider's server, and
learning can be combined with traditional events like lectures or
seminars (so-called "blended
learning"). Additionally, it can be enhanced by Internet technologies
like e-mail,
discussion fora, or chat rooms.
What are the advantages of perfected e-Learning systems?
- "new media" technologies enable attractive and complex presentations
- as they afford interaction, computers are ideal learning tools
- unlimited access to learning repositories (almost) any time and everywhere
- communication between teachers and learners in spite of spacial separation
- systems adapt to the user's individual
preferences, learning
style and speed - dynamic and current content can easily be included
We are focusing on the conception and specification of learning objects
and associated architectures to enable adaptive and personalized
learning in various contexts, e.g., academic and industrial scenarios.
This includes author's tools, course development, intelligent storage
and search using commercial and especially open source tools and
components based on NLP, IR, and semantic web technologies.
