Seminar: Semantic Technologies and Agents
for Web Engineering

Hauptseminar an der Universitaet des Saarlandes, FR 6.2 Informatik, LVst 70151

Scope

Semantic web technologies (in short: semantic technologies) are concerned with means for automated reasoning on semantically annotated data and services in the web. The semantic descriptions of web resources are machine-understandable due to their grounding in formal ontologies defined in standard ontology languages RDFS and OWL2. Intelligent (software) agents can leverage semantic technologies to perform, for example, high-precision semantic search, qualitative data reasoning, and automated task-oriented composition planning of relevant web services for various applications.

In this seminar we present and discuss various issues of and recent advances in the broad area of semantic technologies and agents for web engineering. We focus on selected topics of web mining, social network analysis, semantic search, semantic stream reasoning, big data analysis, web mashups and semantic services.

Dates and Time: The seminar sessions including presentations and discussions are weekly on Thursday (see schedule) from 16:15 to 18:00.

Location: DFKI - Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence), New Building, Room +2.30 “Turing 1” Exception on June 6: Room “Leibniz” in the Main Building).

The DFKI new building can be accessed via the DFKI main building: Campus D3.2.

Credit Points: 7 (PO 2006)

All certificates for successfull participation in this seminar are marked.

Registration

If you want to participate in the this seminar, please register for it until April 2, 2013, 6 pm, latest via email to klusch@dfki.de.

Your registration request should provide the following information:

  • Full name (first name, surname)
  • Enrollment number (Matrikulationsnummer)
  • Contact details (email, phone, address)
  • Current semester and course of studies
  • Preferred topic of seminar contribution (check selection of available topics).

After that date, new registrations are possible only for presentation of topics at certain dates of open slots (please check the seminar schedule).

Presentation of Topics

    Dates: February 15, 2013, 2 pm; March 1, 2013, 2 pm; March 15, 2013, 2 pm

Assignment of Topics

Please note that the assignment of seminar topics to registered participants of the seminar will be done on a first-come-first-served basis from February 15, 2013 on until all (13) time slots are filled. The indication of your preferred topic is required for this purpose. A notification about topic assignment based on your request for registration and preferences will be sent to you within one week in reply to your email.

Once the topic has been assigned to you it still can be returned by you only within one week (7 days) after the date of assignment by email to klusch@dfki.de. If you are (for whatsoever reason) not consent with the topic assigned to you, please make sure to notify us immediately (that is within the one week period) for reasons of fairness to your fellow students who might be interested in this topic. If you return it after the one-week period, your participation in the seminar is considered as not successful.

The DFKI research team for Intelligent Information Systems (I2S) also offers many interesting topics for bachelor and master theses in the area of semantic web, service-oriented computing and intelligent agent technologies.
