Peter Adolphs

I am a researcher at the Language Technology Lab at DFKI Berlin. I have studied Computer Science and Linguistics at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Stages of my studies include a one-semester visit to the Department of Computational Linguistics at Saarland University and the participation in several summer schools for Computional and General Linguistics (e.g., ESSLLI 2003, FFL 2002, ESSLLI 2001, ESSLLI 2000, among others).

My general theoretical research interests are linguistically adequate computational models for the most basic levels of linguistic analysis of written text, namely morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. I have worked on morphological models and their implementation, HPSG grammar engineering and parsing and the automatic acquisition of linguistic resources from text corpora. I am furthermore interested in utilizing computational models of natural language for building applications that help to solve real-world problems. My current focus of work lies in the development and improvement of information access and knowledge management solutions by leveraging linguistic analyses at various levels and applying them to large amounts of data, for arriving at an application-specific semantics with minimalized human efforts, using Information Extraction, Question Answering and Semantic Web technologies.

Miscellanies

Over the past years, DFKI has given birth to many successful spin-off companies. One of the latest is yocoy, an offspring of our Language Technology lab, which offers the smart translation assistant and phrase book for mobile devices called i-You. i-You currently supports to-and-fro translations between Chinese, English and German. 我要去买个iphone先   o(╯□╰)o
