| ...about somesports... |
My favourite sports are handball and orienteering. I see both of them as hobbies, I've no professional interest in them. My club is TV 1901 Saarlouis-Beaumarais e.V., a 300-member local sport club in my hometown Saarlouis.
I've played in its handball team for more than fourteen years in
the leagues from "Kreisklasse" up to "Saarliga" of
Handballverband Saar, the handball
federation of my country Saarland,
and ended my career in 1999 (in the age of 32, I decided to be too old
for this rough sport).
In parallel, I edited our handball club monthly paper "FREIwurf"
for about seven years.
Look here to see some antique
online versions of it.
I also was trainer of several handball youngster teams for more than fifteen
years.
It was a good time with lots of great moments, e.g. friendship,
championships, tournament victories and several holiday trips with the
youngsters.
Orienteering
is really a hobby, because my club hasn't got an own O map yet.
I can say that it's me who introduced the "thinking sport"
into my club in 1985, as a good and diversified exercice for the
training camps of the (handball) youngsters.
It was some kind of re-invention, because I'd never heard about this sport
before.
Thus, I was very surprised when I realized that this is a real and
official sport.
From this moment on, it was my sport -- in the first time the
second one beyond handball, today it's the sport for me.
At the begin of 1997, I took place no. 215 (of ~315) in the men's class H21 of
Bundesrangliste, Germany's national ranking list of O. 2002, I competed in the elders' class H35 and got rank 73 (of 108).
Furthermore, O is a great occasion to travel, to meet people from other
countries and to learn more about other regions all over the world.
You can find more of mine about O here.
As a youngster, I also played basketball with the team of the Royals for about seven years. There'd been no much future (I'm less than six feet tall ;-), thus I switched to handball. I continued to see basketball as a very aesthetic sport, and I like to watch it, and to play it for fun.
I'm also interested in soccer, of course, because it's a common German sickness. But I'm no fan of a team or a player.
