UMTS-Doit, being a core project of the "Multimedia Initiative" of Deutsche Telekom Corp. and the Ministry of Economics of the Saarland, is powered by a joint-venture of T-Systems International and the DFKI. T-Mobile Germany is the provider of the required UMTS infrastructure. Three relevant targets are pursued through by developing and operating an open demonstration and evaluation center, located at the DFKI:
- market attendant introduction of UMTS technology
- quick introduction and marketing of mobile broad-band services
- establishing UMTS as a location factor for the Saarland region
