 But is completely removing the dependency from the pc-file the right fix?
 It is used and linked by typelib, so it
 [http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Overlinking#pkgconfig_issues should] be added
 in the (non-existing) "Requires.private:" field?

 utilmm was not updated yet?
