Grand reopening: New showroom for the Forum Digital Technologies in Berlin

The year 2023 started with a welcome change of scenery for Forum Digital Technologies (FDT). In mid-February, its new showroom and exhibition space opened at Salzufer 15/16 in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

Those who have visited the showroom of the Forum in the past know that it combines a unique selection of demonstrators for showcasing cutting-edge digital technologies and the amenities of a modern event space. The Forum Digital Technologies is operated by DFKI (FB IAM) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK); the showroom is managed by the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute.

Digital innovations "Made in Germany" on display 

As before, the new showroom primarily serves as a designated exhibition space and meeting place for R&D projects from the technology programs of the BMWK as well as for other research projects. The aim and purpose of this event space is to accelerate the transfer of results from applied research projects to the German economy (especially SME’s) and to support networking efforts from various players from science, industry, politics, and civil society. The showroom is open to hosting specialist workshops, project meetings, networking events and other exchange formats with multipliers from the digital community with events taking place almost daily. The new modular room concept offers space for over 300 people on a total of 700 m².  

International guests and delegations regularly find their way to the Forum. In guided tours, applications from the fields of artificial intelligence, blockchain, 3D printing, robotics, e-health, secure digital identities, and smart living are presented to groups of guests.      

Testbed for the "ToHyVe" project  

The FDT showroom also functions as a testbed and living lab for the BMWK-funded research project ToHyVe, in whose consortium the DFKI research areas COS and SLT are also represented. One central aim of ToHyVE is to develop a toolbox for hybrid event formats that captivate audiences with immersive technologies. One of its elements is a virtual conversational concierge system that is being developed by DFKI. The project brings together partners from the fields of immersive audio and video technologies, AI, streaming, data security, virtual worlds, event platforms, exhibition design and usability to design innovative solutions for a range of use cases. These can then be tested, flexibly adapted, and further developed at events in the Forum.
