Cognitive Assistants

The research department Cognitive Assistants (COS), headed by Prof. Dr. Antonio Krüger, CEO of DFKI, focuses on the development of basic principles of multimodal Human-Machine Interaction and personalized dialog systems that integrate speech, gestures, and facial expressions with physical interaction. Using process, user, task, and domain models, COS addresses the various aspects of situational multimodal interaction in the development of assistance and decision support systems.

Our interdisciplinary team of researchers has a broad knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and related fields, such as Cognitive Psychology. We combine empirical and engineering methods to make significant contributions at the intersection of robotics, learning methods, user modeling, and human-machine interaction.

With our industrial partners, we transfer results from basic research to diverse applications in healthcare, Industrie 4.0 and IoT, automotive, retail, smart energy, smart living, sports, and education.
