World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

To further strengthen its relations with the European industrial and research landscape, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) opened a German-Austrian office located at the Berlin-based ‘Project-Office’ of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) - the leading German research institution in the field of innovative software technology.

W3C is an international consortium in which all member organizations, a permanent team and the public work together to improve web standards. W3C pursues its goals primarily through the development of Web standards and guidelines for the long-term growth of the World Wide Web. More than 300 organizations are members of the consortium.  The work is jointly managed by the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) in the USA, the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) headquartered in France and Keio University in Japan. In addition, W3C maintains a number of World Offices in 14 regions around the world.

W3C works with regional organizations to advance W3C's mission. The W3C offices help with promotional events in the local languages, are actively involved in expanding the W3C's geographical base and support international participations in the W3C. The W3C offices are located in Australia, Benelux, Brazil, China, Germany and Austria, Finland, France, India, Israel, Italy, Korea, Morocco, Sweden, Senegal, Spain, South Africa and the United Kingdom/Ireland.
