If it only concerns mars, I don't know really. The other packages in 
image_processing require opencv 2.3 (maybe 2.2 works too), which as far 
as I remember are not available on 10.04 as os packages. Often only 
parts from opencv don't compile, and you can switch off those parts. 
Don't know if this works in your case.
