and I am interested in improving the tutorial ;-)

The issue was that you did not add drivers/sim_quest3d (you did add
drivers/orogen/sim_quest3d) in autoproj/manifest. You have to either
declare the package (with cmake_package) or to add it to
autoproj/manifest for autoproj to accept it as a valid package name.
