Aesthetic
Expression of Feelings
|

The description.
This workshop is a follow-up of an i3
probe, aiming at exploring new ways of enhancing an aesthetic expression
of feelings and emotions through technologies. The aesthetic expression
of feelings encompasses not only people's ability to express but also
their ability/need to perceive, interpret and influence the context, in
a dynamic fashion. This entails: developing a sense of context, reflection,
understanding values, gaining insights for adapting to situations and
contexts, developing empathy, building up social competencies, improving
intra-personal and inter-personal communication.
The
workshop will test a theoretical framework of using technolgies to enhance
aesthetic expression against real case studies addressing a specific areas
of disabled, socially disadvantaged people and children in school.
With this workshop, we aim at defining the qualities, which technologies
must have, to address clearly identified problems and challenges experienced
in this specific area. These defined qualities will also be applicable
in other areas, which will be discussed during the workshop.

The workshop.
The
above is the proposed conceptual framework for the workshop. In the workshop,
we aim at offering a theoretical understanding of different aspects of
the problem, with the support from already existing theories, to illustrate
this with examples from our own and others' experiences and discuss it
with the audience. The commonalities (and differences) could then be drawn
among the different areas identified. Each speaker should identify a target
group illustrated by a specific case, drawn from real experience, and
supported also with visual material.
The
morning will be dedicated to:
- 5 presentations of 30 minutes (1 of which introductory)
- a short preparatory session for the afternoon session, in which participants
will be presented and will be invited to choose among a set of scenarios
(each scenario will be characterized by a specific set of problems). Scenarios
will be prepared in advance and somehow linked to the morning presentations.
In
the afternoon session, according to the number of participants, the group
will split into 4 to 5 sub-groups and will:
- work each one on a specific scenario (chosen among a set of scenarios
presented in the final session of the morning) in a 'design-session-setup':
each sub-group will discuss the specific problem/issue characterizing
the scenario and will come up with a technology that could help solve
that issue.
- present the results of the 'design-session' in a conclusive plenary
session.
A session, where the conclusions are formulated, will close-off the workshop.
