"Promoting diversity and gender equality is of strategic importance to us because variousness is essential for DFKI – for the well-being of our employees and for the success of AI research. Our diverse, transnational, and multidisciplinary teams contribute a lot of facets, languages, and cultures. These are important innovation drivers for the development and transfer of AI technologies that take into account the range of application needs as well as the diversity of user expectations."

Diversity and Gender Equality at DFKI

The Diversity & Gender Equality Office is an autonomous organizational unit that currently consists of twelve members from different research and administrative departments. Our goal is to strengthen diversity and equality at DFKI – both within our organization and in our research in line with our guiding principle “Human-Centered AI”.

In cooperation with the management board, we are placing equal opportunities at the core of our work and implement a Gender Equality Plan (GEP). We are developing practicable measures that ensure diversity and inclusion at all levels of the company and strengthen our corporate culture across all sites in a participatory manner.

Our Gender Equality Plan 2022 – 2026 is a living document that is always being evaluated for effectiveness and adapted as required.

A healthy work-life balance and fairness within DFKI are essential to us. We actively support gender-equitable career paths from junior staff development to management positions.

"Diversity is the reason why working at DFKI appeals to me. I enjoy working with so many different personalities, learning from the diverse perspectives and drawing creativity. That’s why I’m particularly delighted to be able to actively advance the topics of diversity and gender equality with the motivated and energetic team and thus help shape the corporate culture. We wish fairness and diversity for us – as employees of DFKI, and for anyone who comes into contact with our research results."
