Celebrating green change: PGS and DFKI present technologies for environmental protection at Greentech Festival 2020

Green light for an environmentally friendly future: After the delay of the second Greentech Festival due to the Corona virus, the event previously scheduled for June can now finally take place. With a new, hybrid approach, the GTFD 2020 now combines the experience of an on-site festival with the flexibility of the digital world. Joining the event are Pacific Garbage Screening and the DFKI Laboratory Niedersachsen.

From 16 to 18 September, the Greentech Festival 2020 offers the chance to discover, discuss and award technologies for a green future during a three-day-programme with conferences, exhibitions, award ceremonies and concerts. With the motto #CelebrateChange, the festival at Kraftwerk Berlin gathers 40 speakers and 25 companies presenting and debating innovations in relation to topics such as climate change, environmental protection and a green future. A large part of the festival programme can be experienced both on site as well as digitally via streaming or video.

At the exhibition, the research department Marine Perception (MAP) of the DFKI Laboratory Niedersachsen is teaming up with its project partners Pacific Garbage Screening (PGS) and Berky GmbH in order to show how sensor data can help the environment in many different ways: Attached to drones or airplanes, modern sensors can collect information for instance about plastic pollution in rivers. Algorithms from the area of Artificial Intelligence can then analyse the data and conclude what kind of garbage is found in rivers, where it is from and how it can be prevented.

Visitors can also learn about the garbage collection boat CollectiX created by PGS and Berky, which the DFKI equipped with intelligent sensors. The exhibition is open on 17 and 18 September between 10 am and 6 pm. Tickets for the Greentech Festival 2020 as well as further information are available on the festival website.
