Intelligent Video Retrieval

Over the last years there has been a significant trend from analog to digital video, lately we have even seen the replacement of analog terrestrial TV signals by their digital cousins. With the increase in the amount of digital video data comes an increase in the need for processing these data. For digital images, management and processing software are already standard components of modern PCs. However, for video data there do not exist similarly widespread solutions. The only type of software available is editing software, here. The user is not assisted by current software in any content-based way. However, this would provide even more benefits for the user, because for video it is much harder to obtain an overview of a collection of files than it is for images, where fast and intuitive possibilities exist. It is the goal of the project InViRe to close this gap in the domain of video processing and archiving by providing content-based access to video archives.
