Bremen's program for the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021-2027 ("efre-bremen.de": https://www.efre-bremen.de) has formulated the political objective "A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic change and regional ICT connectivity" in its Operational Program. This includes the specific objective "Developing and expanding research and innovation capacities and the introduction of advanced technologies."
This infrastructure project is part of the "Smartport Living Lab" initiative (efre.isl.org), which aims to establish a permanent transfer bridge between current research and its practical implementation in the ports of Bremen. It serves to establish a (central) control center in order to network the real-world laboratories of the individual project partners, thereby making them accessible in a decentralized manner, and to visualize and control the technologies and tools developed at DFKI in a port environment. The examples currently range from resilient IT/OT networks on a small scale to coopetition of stakeholders in the port area to increase resilience up to the establishment of autonomous transport chains in outer space.
Overall, the project also makes an important contribution to improving technology and knowledge transfer both to the respective stakeholders (e.g., in the port environment) and to the interested public.
