Abstract

To interact intuitively with robotic systems in complex application scenarios, advanced human-machine interfaces (HMIs) are required that support humans on demand. When developing such HMIs, we do not only focus on designs that allow intuitive interaction but also on the implementation of intelligent operator support systems. Both are important to improve interaction in complex scenarios in which the user does not just control a system but has to control other parameters of the scenario as well, like communication, support of semiautonomous navigation or supervision of the general functionality of the robotic system itself. E.g., the scenario in Fig. 1 requires simultaneous telecontrol of a robotic arm [1] and response to information that are relevant for the controlled system or the interaction with other people by one operator [2].
