Short biography

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tim Güneysu is head of the chair of Security Engineering and speaker of the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The HGI with its 26 professorships and research groups is a primary research department of the Ruhr University and home of CASA, the only Cluster of Excellence in IT Security within Germany. Prof. Güneysu connects this hotspot in security and research cluster to the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the department of “Cyber Physical Systems”. Part of his research work is the broad area of hardware as well as application and development-specific problems of IT security. In his scientific career, Prof. Güneysu has published more than 120 research papers at international conferences and in journals and serves as Managing Director of Transactions on Cryptography Hardware and Embedded Systems, the journal of the world's leading convention in the field of hardware security. He is co-founder of SciEngines GmbH, which has been distributing specialized hardware for cryptanalytic applications since 2007.
