Zusammenfassung

This chapter describes the role natural language processing (NLP) can play for multimedia applications. As an example of such an application, we present an approach dealing with the automatic conceptual indexing of multimedia documents which can then be searched by semantic categories instead of key words. This work has been investigated and developed in the EU funded project MUMIS. A novelty of the approach is to exploit multiple sources of information relating to video content (for example the rich range of textual and transcribed sources covering soccer games).
