Zusammenfassung

Digitization as the megatrend of the 21st century has the potential to influence many, if not all, aspects of human life. Based on recent technological advances and the ensuing growth in maturity, Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be seen as the main driving factor behind this development. Business leaders are typically aware of these large-scale developments, but still unsure about how their own companies might leverage the potential of AI to enhance and change their own business processes. There is, hence, an ongoing need for AI research, both to develop new methods and technologies and to transfer them into entrepreneurial practice. This dissertation investigates the application of AI technologies in three exemplary BPM subtopics: Reference Model Mining (RMM), Predictive Process Monitoring (PPM), and Process Discovery (PD). Given the different objectives and maturity of those subtopics, it contributes to the development of rational agents for each of them. For RMM, it introduces multiple new methods, which foster the combination of human and machine capabilities in reference model development. For PPM, it presents a new method for predicting future process behavior using artificial neural networks. Finally, for PD, it investigates threats to the validity of process discovery evaluations.
