Zusammenfassung

Since the mid 1970s conceptual modeling has achieved tremendous attention in research and practice. The objective of this paper is to analyze the relevance of conceptual modeling for practice. A cross-sectional survey was conducted. In total, 440 modelers have participated in this study. The results show that the plethora of modeling approaches is used very selectively. Some particular modeling approaches are dominating in practice, e.g. the Entity-Relationship-Model and the Unified Modeling Language are frequently used modeling languages. A particular trend which approaches will dominate in the future cannot be derived.
