Zusammenfassung

The article provides an overview of coordinating constructions, their fundamental properties, and the challenges they propose for current syntactic theory. An outline of the basic aspects of constituent coordination, together with an introduction into the most common terminology, is followed by a discussion of the interaction between coordination and extraction. The remaining part of the article addresses theoretically challenging cases of coordination, including non-constituent coordination, feature indeterminacy and coordination of unlikes, reflecting the current state of the art in contemporary formal syntax, with a focus on unification-based and logic-based grammar frameworks.
